forgot about this thread. anybody else go to PJ20 at alpine valley? toddy?
I sadly did not attend, I way toying with the idea but then had a musician that I love call me and ask me to do a home concert on Saturday.

I have recordings of both nights that I downloaded, awesome stuff. Great that Cornell was there and they busted out the Temple of the Dog material.

oh, the home concert was Jimmy Newquist of Caroline's Spine. Did it outside for the first time and he surprised me by bringing the lead guitarist and bass player so I had 3/4 of the band here. It was awesome, one guy uploaded a bunch of videos from the show to YouTube, here is one and you can see the rest from clicking on his username...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUXORjsd4wI&feature=feedf

thankfully I don't think he video'd me onstage introducing them or my friend who was the opening act.

RE: Jeff Daniels tour

Hey adam, wow, what a week I had. Seems like a blur but I got to see BVA play 9 times in 8 days so that was fantastic all by itself. There were many shows sold out, although not all were giant venues. The Mount Pleasant show got moved indoors due to weather only hours before the event so we thought that was going to doom us, but we had 3200 people show up! A month ago they had Toad the Wet Sprocket and got 2100 people to come out, so we were floored that we got such a great turnout. Brian got to play to a lot of people that had never heard of him and frankly don't know TVP, an older crowd but I'd say he made many new fans. The setlist were short so he had to keep them to a fairly standard list to highlight the new material and then hit those songs that are usually the more "best of" type songs of his solo career. The new songs he typically played each night were Michigan Coast to Coast, Surrender, On the Day I Fell for You and My Little Town (as he wrote that one with Jeff Daniels). In addition to his set, he was asked to come out and do a song with Jeff and that grew into 2 later in the tour, they started out doing Michigan in Me (from Jeff's latest album) but mid tour they switched it to Mile 416 and then they had Brian join them for a bluesy "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" which was a lot of fun. The fiddle/mandolin player that plays with Jeff was fantastic, played so many solos and stuff and basically played parts differently every night. We had a great time and we're hopeful that if Jeff does this again in the future that we might get a call to hit the road with him again.

This really allowed Brian to get to some places in Michigan that he hadn't played in the past and therefore get more people to hear his music. We did pretty well with CD sales too so we got the music into a lot of new people's hands which is great as well.

I cannot even begin to describe what a thrill the week was for me as a super fan and then have people treat me as "tour manager" and get to hang with the guys, go to a couple after show parties, etc. Even got to go golfing with BVA and Jeff D and Dana (Jeff's tour manager), loads of fun and lots of laughs there as well.

"To hell with reminescing, let's do it again!"

RE: roll call dammit!

Hey BigD, hopefully when you get the CD and listen, you'll see all the same thought provoking lyrics and themes are still there, and the addition of one song "Facebook Friend" is not there for comic relief but a satirical poke at the ridiculous nature of social media and "friends" and "top friends"

Personally, I was "friends" with you due to knowing you from here and other media sites, but until we hung out at Lollapalooza last year, I realized you and your brother are great guys and had such an awesome time. So wish I was able to go there this coming weekend again this year! Have a blast.
Thankfully, I set up the forums in my RSS reader so I got the messages. One way or another, I'm still here. Life's changed a lot since things were very active. To be honest, my enjoyment of BVA & TVP these days are more nostalgic.

I just ordered the new BVA disc, so hopefully this reignites things, but I'm guessing not. I saw him play at The Ark a few months back and some of the new songs seemed too silly for my tastes (ie: Facebook Friends). Maybe the schtick/success influence of the kids album is it, but then again, maybe that's what happens with further movement into the folk-ish genre than rock. The crowd seemed to enjoy it, so maybe I'm just not in the target market anymore, nothing wrong with that.
I probably don't count, but I am a super fan as well! Can't wait to hit the road with Brian in a couple weeks for the Jeff Daniels tour. Tour Manager/Merch sales/Roadie, cannot think of a cooler vacation from my real job than hitting the road with BVA. Should be cool as hell, but this all hinges on Brian lifting that restraining order he has against me

Maybe, but probably poetic licence. IE, he knew Kid Rock before the world knew Kid rock.

Like we knew Brian Vander Ark before the world knew Brian Vander Ark =)

I like the song a lot but it's probably to "Michigan-centric" to get any traction, but maybe he'll licence it to the state government for a promotional campaign or something and make a ton of money off it!

yeah, a great tune Adam, he's tweaked the lyrics a bit since starting it. At one time he was thinking of leaving it off the cd, thinking it was too specific for Michigan but I'm glad he kept it on, a great song. Having had him play it at my LCLR in April, its neat to now hear the more polish studio version with all the little added effects. He never ceases to deliver. More great tunes to come from this disc, your gonna love it!
